Casas del Jiguero are two detached holiday cottages that can sleep six guests each, and be attached together within the same building. They were built in a sixteenth century building that has been restored for green tourism. It retains the charm of a building of its time while keeping all 21st century amenities and equipment.
Two holiday cottages called Casa del Jiguero 1 and Casa del Jiguero 2 have been built on a sixteenth century house, barn and annexed dwellings - the first of them built on the old home, and the second on what was once the stables, barn and hayloft. Both can sleep up to six, and include en suite master bedroom, two secondary bedrooms, bathroom, toilet, kitchen and lounge.
They have a shared car park outside, in what once was known locally as "currila" (stone poultry yard), two separate gardens, and doorway with a hidden inscription of its year of construction on it (MDV). Each has heating and hot water, washing machine, dishwasher, microwave, frige, stereo music and TV. The housing materials are mainly wood, stone and brick, which combined with the décor, make a uniquely warm and comfortable atmosphere, with a luxury (although it may sound a bit pretentious), which is not found in similar green tourism buildings. Being annexed to each other (have connecting doors on every floor which can be locked or unlocked as needed) makes it easy to share them, increasing the capacity for large groups up to twelve people.

The holiday cottages are located in Herrera de Ibio, a small village in the Cabezón de la Sal Valley, with excellent conditions for a holiday in Cantabria and to go and visit this wonderful province. This is the main advantage of their location - being so close to the main sights in Cantabria makes access easy and quick, while you have a quiet holiday in a remote village.
Herrera de Ibio is about five kilometres from the Cantabrian motorway, so in about 20 minutes you can enjoy the advantages and charms of a city like Santander. But at the same time, it is the northern boundary of the Saja-Besaya National Reserve, the largest in Spain and one of the most beautiful due to its large beech and oak tree forests. From Herrera de Ibio, if you walk straight toward the south, you can cross the entire mountain range out to Castile, without entering any town or village and through lots of valleys and mountain ranges. But at the same time, it is ten kilometres, in a straight line, from the most populated coastal towns - such as Comillas, Santillana del Mar, Altamira Caves or San Vicente de la Barquera - and you can reach nearby beaches in less than fifteen minutes. The region of the Picos de Europa is also quite close - Unquera, the gateway to this region and threshold of La Hermida gorge, is easily accessed by motorway.
Life in the city, the charm of tourist resorts, the coast, and the tranquility of mountains, forests and life in a rural setting are compatible thanks to its location.
Herrera de Ibio can only be reached by specific roads leading to this village, so there is only the traffic of residents. This is due to its location at the foot of Mount Ibio, (the highest mountain in the region near the sea), and at the bottom of the gorge formed by the Ceceja River crossing this mountain and the valley opening into the Saja River mouth, near the coast.
It is a town where visitors can leave their kids on their own, see Ibio Military Thoroughbred Studs, go into the forest, or to the river and just relax listening to the cow bells ringing.
